Dr Saliya possesses a vast experience having worked in different hospitals in Australia, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka. During his training in Australia, Dr Saliya has worked in both regional and tertiary hospitals in Queensland and Victoria which include, Gold Coast, Logan and Geelong hospitals. After completing his advanced training in Logan hospital, Dr Saliya became a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. At present, he is the Acting Director in Obstetrics and Gynaecology department in Hervey Bay hospital. He is a senior lecturer and examiner at the School of the Medicine University of Queensland. Dr Saliya has been involved actively in teaching and training medical students and junior doctors. He is a training supervisor for GP Obstetricians, international medical graduates, and doctors in Australian specialist training programmes.
His area of specialty and interest are Urogynaecology (prolapsed), minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopy), abnormal uterine bleeding and fibroid, abnormal pap smear and colposcopy.
Dr Saliya keeps abreast of the latest advancements in medical science and has a well-earned reputation as an exceptional surgeon with a particular interest in minimally invasive surgery. He is an inventor who holds a patent for a uterine manipulator which is used in laparoscopic hysterectomy.
